I arrived at the airport about mid-afternoon, lugging around my new suitcase and proudly donning my Aspen, CO sticker. This would be my second trip to Colorado for MAXIT and ever in my life. I was looking forward to going back again, this time to Denver. I always get butterflies whenever I travel for work - foremost from the anticipation of a new destination, new people, and a new opportunity to create. Secondly, from the expected nervousness for the unknown. Did we bring enough carts? Will the boys driving the UHAUL from Texas to Colorado have a breakdown? Will our focal point phalaenopsis orchids come in blue instead of gray? (Which they did - thank god for floral spray paint).

But for this wedding, I was feeling more confident. After our recent trip to Aspen, we had more travel experience under our belts and a greater understanding of how to prepare for the hiccups we could run into along the way. In Aspen, we produced out of the mother-in-law's suite and the backyard of an Airbnb. While we had a gorgeous view of the mountains, the threat of flower-eating deer every night gave us quite the arm workout when it came to moving buckets. To alleviate some of these issues, we contacted a hotel and booked one of their conference rooms to work out of. While I will always miss having a view of the gorgeous mountains anytime I design, this set-up proved perfect. Ample tables brought by the gracious and kind hotel staff any time we needed them, a water hook-up in the kitchen that was one door over, and direct access to a loading area for our UHAUL. Probably not the most exciting aspect of event design, but these are the small things that make or break the production of successful events.

What excited me most were not the dumpsters that were close by, but the unique concept of Lauren and Eric’s wedding. The design for the wedding was the definition of cool. Dramatic, moody, and modern - perfectly matched to the style of the venue, Space Gallery. A spacious art gallery filled with paintings, sculptures, ceramics, and prints located in Denver’s art district.

And trust we came ready to fill that space with our works of art. Giant, fluffy, eye-catching rings were the main focal point of the space, created entirely out of chicken wire and spray-painted Baby's Breath, fern, and leaves. These were complimented by gorgeous orchids placed in smoked glass and dynamic blooms running down the center of each table.

And I can’t forget to mention the other show-stopper - a mirrored aisle with runners of lavender, tan, cool-toned pink, and mauve that climbed their way up to the matching mirrored arch. With such a dazzling design concept, all that was running through my mind throughout the week was - “Who IS this couple?”

From the moment I laid eyes on Lauren and Eric, it all made sense. Of course, a couple so chic would have a wedding of the same tier. My eyes gravitated towards Lauren the moment she walked in sporting a sleek, blunt bob and a gorgeous floor-length lace wedding dress. But it was hard not to notice Eric as well in his stunning metallic floral suit. They were bold and glamorous and we made sure they had a wedding to match.

The long hours at the hotel and the magic of watching this event come to fruition are at the forefront of my mind when I think of Denver, but the moment I remember most fondly is one I hardly ever get to experience as a floral designer - listening to the bride and groom exchange vows. A helper and I went back to the venue a couple of hours after the completion of set-up to flip the aisle florals to the reception area. We got there a little early, so I had the joy of sitting and listening to this intimate moment between a couple that loved each other with so much passion and devotion, it was a gentle reminder of why we do what we do. To create a memorable day to commemorate the beginning of the rest of their lives.

Irish Whiskey has us MAD

Irish Whiskey has us MAD

There are so many great restaurants within the Houston area. Everytime we get the opportunity for a corporate event like this, we always say yes. This time we had the pleasure of working with the extravagant Craft Irish Whiskey Co. at MAD Houston for their release of the prized “Emerald Isle Collection” whiskey set.

The auction for the exclusive “Emerald Isle Collection” whiskey set took place at MAD Houston.

Craft Irish Whiskey The Emerald Isle Event

This is one auction sure to keep guests on their feet. Let the bidding begin!

The entire walnut case contains two bottles of ultra-rare, 30-year-old, triple distilled Irish whiskey, accompanied by a Fabergé Celtic Egg Objet and bespoke Altruist timepiece. In addition to the main whiskey and precious metal art pieces, there is also be a humidor with two ultra-rare Cohiba Siglo VI Grand Reserva cigars, a gold-plated cigar cutter, gold plated water pipette, pure obsidian whiskey stones, a hip flask with a sample of the Emerald Isle whiskey, and a carafe filled with Irish spring water from the same region where the whiskey was made.

Starting from the hand-crafted bottle, responsibly sourced emeralds from the Gemfields Kagem mine in Zambia appear on the neck and lowermost part of the bottle. This bottle itself holds the rare whiskey which has been aged in a 200-liter “first fill” American oak bourbon cask, then finished in a single 40-liter Pedro Ximénez sherry barrel.

This tablescape was one for the books. Different roses were added here to give a luxurious look.

Limited to just seven 1-of-1 sets, each Emerald Isle Collection is priced close to $2 million USD with 100 percent of the proceeds going to charity (50 percent to the Correa Family Foundation, and the other half to the buyer’s charity of choice. The launch of these highly-limited sets were ready to go to auction at this private event.

Floral Arrangements alongside the bar carry the theme across the room at MAD Houston.

We could not be more thrilled with how this event came out.

A moody color palette was necessary for such a fun and elaborate venue. We can’t wait to be back!

On Cloud-9: A Art Installation

On Cloud-9: A Art Installation

Floral design is something we hold near and dear to our hearts here at Maxit Flower Design. Other than that event design comes in at a close second. To achieve a truly successful event, you must be able to say you transformed the space around you to create magic for guests and clients. Art installations are an easy way to add-on to overall aesthetic.

We had the opportunity to work with one of our favorite event producers, Little Coterie to create a breath-taking art installation of clouds cascading across a very industrial-looking ceiling at none other than the Lone Star Flight Museum.

The bar at any event can become a focal point. It is important to keep in mind height while designing a floral arrangement of this kind. Cheers everyone!

Hand-made life-size clouds hung throughout the event space. These were all grand in size to create drama above the aircrafts. Tall ceilings call for something imaginative!

Styled Photoshoot in Round Top, TX

Styled Photoshoot in Round Top, TX

Round Top, Texas is one of our favorite places to travel for an off-site event. This quaint little town is located about an hour and a half from Houston’s Inner Loop. This city is the perfect weekend getaway from some great food and shopping.

A pastel tablescape filled with flowers, fresh white linens, and beautiful glassware for a luxury styled photoshoot in Texas

A lovely tablescape for a cozy, country night in Round Top, TX for a styled shoot hosted by Little Coterie Studio from Houston, TX.

We had the fantastic opportunity to have our flowers be a part of a styled shoot in collaboration with two adorable boutiques from the greater Houston area. Their names are Golden Thread and Frock Shop. We love Golden Thread for all of their colorful and fun jewelry and accessories. Also, Frock Shop carries some of our favorite clothing brands.

Country-chic was the dress code for evening at this styled photoshoot.

Pastel colors are a great option to create a colorful, yet tasteful background. We loved this venue in Round Top, TX for the huge tree which made designing easy.

Maxit Flower Design loves to incorporate color within a floral design. Here we truly wanted the flowers to represent the brands we are working with. Woman-focused and colorful were our key words. We decided to go with pastels, which made us miss Springtime incredibly.

This event is a great example of how to add more flowers into unique locations. This instance called for floral additions to the drink trays that were passed around as well as the drink cart.

To carry on the pastel floral theme, stunning pink roses were added to serving trays passed around event.

The drink cart may have been the most popular item at this styled photoshoot event.

Incorporating pastel colors within the arrangements ensured we stayed on theme for this event.

Supper Club at Sunday Press

Supper Club at Sunday Press

Sunday Supper Club is an extension of the local coffee shop and cafe Sunday Press. The initiative started after the two owners wanted to bridge the gap between women in the hospitality and healthcare industries. What is a supper club, you may ask? Traditionally, it is a dining establishment that also functions as a social club. This one, however, is not invite-only.

Sunday Press's modern, clean aesthetic makes for a phenomenal place to gather for food and drink. The supper club has had a fantastic turnout, time after time. The event occurs about once a quarter, so many are lucky enough to come out and mingle.

We enjoy dinner parties for all the opportunities to incorporate flowers. Maxit Flower Design has had the pleasure of providing arrangements for the event. We like to keep the flower arrangements low enough in height so that conversing is well-maintained throughout the night.

Some places we like to add flowers to a dinner party are placing them on catering or serving trays. This adds additional pops of color and furthers the event's overall aesthetic. A current trend we find inspiring is flowers encapsulated in ice buckets or ice cubes. This does take some prep work on the front end but is sure to wow guests.
