2020: the year of micro weddings

Our wedding season is beginning to pick back up, and we couldn’t be more thankful.

A few weeks ago we had the pleasure of providing the floral design for a wedding held at the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Houston. Our team had a blast designing and executing the vision that Beth Ann and Virgil had in mind for their special day. We love the punchiness and vibrancy of the pink florals that our bride requested for her garden-style bridal bouquet as well as the floral arch that served as a beautiful backdrop for their wedding ceremony.

Additionally, we provided pedestal arrangements that lined the ceremony aisle as well as greenery with flowers on the staircase to help guide guests upstairs to the second floor where the festivities took place. Each of these elements combined made a huge impact on the look and feel of their ceremony and reception.

The venue has a special place in the hearts of our clients, Beth Ann and Virgil. They are both active volunteers and serve as mentors, or “Bigs,” within the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization. Beth Ann and Virgil currently mentor a young boy named Kelvin. For the past two years, they have had the pleasure of getting to know Kelvin and his mother, whom they now consider a part of their family. Kelvin took part in Beth Ann and Virgil’s wedding and participated as the official ring bearer during the ceremony, which made it all the more special for our bride and groom.

It’s hard to believe that it’s already September. While it has been a challenging year for many, we feel inspired and encouraged when beautiful images like these arrive in our inbox. We are so excited to finally share these gorgeous bridal portraits of our friend Kailey of Double Shot of Sass and Etoile Artistry. We had the pleasure of working with Kailey earlier this summer when she asked us to design the flowers for her wedding ceremony at Arrowhead Hill; and we couldn’t have been more excited to create a dreamy garden-style bouquet for her bridal portraits. Everything about this photo shoot is pure magic. The Creative Chateau served as the stunning backdrop for the portraits that were captured by the wonderful, Courtney Leigh Photography. Butter Artistry did an exquisite job with Kailey’s hair and makeup. And how fantastic are Kailey’s shoes that served as her something blue? When I look at these portraits I think of timeless elegance and grace. Congratulations again to Kailey and her husband, Paul!

cuts of color: a flower farm near houston

There's just something magical that happens on a sunny Texas day when you're surrounded by a field of fresh, beautiful flowers. When the weather is warm and the sunshine is just right, the view can take your breath away. A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to visit Cuts of Color, a lovely farm located in south central Texas. Cuts of Color is a family owned business and have actively grown since 1979. The farm is located between Houston and San Antonio just off of IH10 in south central Texas.

Several years ago I met the owner, Rita Anders, at a farmer's market here in Houston. Rita's farm is one of the first local flower markets near the Houston area. She runs a small but mighty operation with the farm spanning over 26,000 sq. feet of greenhouses. On the farm you'll find eight hoop houses and two outdoor growing areas, making it one of the most extensive flower farms in the area. Rita and her team at Cuts of Color practice sustainable agriculture using organic growing methods whenever possible. It’s been a pleasure to watch her grow her business over the years.

Locally grown florals can add an organic element to your arrangements. Some of my favorite flowers are grown on Rita’s farm such as ranunculus, dahlias, and lisianthus. If you’re on the hunt for fresh, Texas grown flowers, Rita’s seasonal selection of flowers can be purchased directly from Central Market in Houston.

global pandemic, covid 19: how we move forward

What an insane couple months it has been. We are holding tight as we manage a company that has had to put 90% of its business on hold. With the exception of some daily deliveries and pop up weddings and events our business has come to a holding pattern that has been hard. With that being said we have to focus on the ones that choose to celebrate. Because we all know the world is hurting, but the small celebrations are what is keeping us going.

We got a last minute request from our friend Kailey of Double Shot of Sass and Etoilly Artistry as her wedding in California got postponed and they still wanted to celebrate with family. It was the perfect Spring day, the weather you guys could NOT have been any better. They chose to get married at Arrowhead Hill, a new gorgeously made Houston venue, and have their reception just right outside the venue on the perfectly manicured lawn.

Our gal pall Courtney Leigh, of Courtney Leigh Photography, photographed the entire wedding and I hope you enjoy it all as much as I did.

It was the perfect Winter day in Houston, the weather was crisp and the sun was shining. No one could have planned a better day. Through out the planning process Elizabeth and her mother, Maria, expressed multiple amount of times their love for flowers. When I was told the first time, I knew we were the perfect fit, but then through out our meetings I knew she meant business.

She was the perfect Southern belle mixing modern touches with more traditional elements. Acrylic chair and tables with topiary mini trees, yes please! Can we get this mix for every wedding? She wanted us to create a layout that was fresh and allowed the space to invite all guests to the dance floor. And then… cover it in flowers. We used the Zaza’s chandeliers to create a canopy of flowers for the dance floor that turned our so beautifully.

She loved the color pink, but wanted a sophisticated spin where we wouldn’t have bubble gum, but instead have color delicately placed through out the room. Julie from Keely Thorne truly pulled everything together and it made for one of the more magical events we have been a part of.

Can you even believe that this was the Houston Zaza Hotel. It’s amazing how we can transform these spaces and fill them up with the most gorgeous blooms.
