add that punch of color

It was an interesting series of events that led to these images. What was meant to be our first solo Open House , turned out to be man handled by tropical storm Imelda.

Our friends over at Spell Events and Centennial Gardens reached out asking us if we were interested in hosting an Open House at their gorgeous venue. They wanted to highlight the Celebration Garden as many do not get a chance to see the venue when tented. We hesitated as we normally do not do open houses but felt like this was the perfect partnership.

We started planning 6 months before the event by creating the design, floor plan, floral design and managing the overall aesthetic of the event. We put all out vendor friends together to make it all happen and felt so excited about the direction it was heading in. And then the bad news came, a tropical storm was heading our way. This is normal for Houston and nothing that we are not used to. BUT, the storm parked itself on top of Houston and it began to flood, BAD!

Mid way through set up we called it and decided to cancel the whole event. Tens of thousands of dollars down the drain. All the flowers purchased, man power, food from our catering vendors… EVERYTHING. It was a tough moment, but we were determined to make the best of it. After getting everything secured we ventured our way home through all the flooding (what normally would take 20 minutes through traffic, took us almost 3 hours to navigate the scary floods).

Our friends over at Centennial Gardens were kind enough to allow us to come back the next day to get some shots of a modified set up so that we could at very least get some images for our portfolio. But before we get to those, I have to mention some people that truly showed what they were all about and led with kindness every second of this mess:

Scott, at HTX Rentals, was so kind to let us keep the rentals in place just one more day so that we could shoot them and style them the way we wished.

Gretchen, at Centennial Gardens, was so gracious to allow us to come back and invade their space. She was so calm and kind through out all the madness and truly couldn’t have helped us more.

Kelsey, at Spell Events, lead the path to success. She was the perfect support staff for our team. She is the calming presence every event planner should be.

Deji Osinulu, with Deji Osinulu Photography. He came to shoot our work at the last minute and really showed up for us.

private residence wedding with keely thorne

This Sunday this lovely couple celebrates their one year anniversary. This is still one of the most memorable events from 2018. It was hosted by the Bride’s family in their gorgeous private home which allowed us to get really creative and produce something super original.

The client’s home had a gorgeous Italian like feel and we wanted to cary that through the event with lush florals and overflowing greenery. Because it was Fall the Bride also requested touches of berries, fruits and tones that would help set the tone.

veronica beard

veronica beard

We got a chance to work with Veronica Beard last week and was one of the highlights of the year. To see two women create a brand that supports and highlights other women is exactly who we want to work with. They are a modern women’s clothing brand that has a little bit of something for everyone.

We love their passion for color and texture and we tried to create florals that would marry those concepts. They asked us to create a floral installation for their entry of their new space and we thought it would be the perfect touch to their new entry way. We got together with our manufacturer and created a structure that would hold this 12’ x 12’ structure. We filled it with a dozen different varieties of faux flowers and greens to create this over flowing tree like structure.

If only it could smell as good as it looked! It took us 4 hrs of set up to make this bad boy come to life. With temperatures in the 90’s we got a good work out and sweat it out. It made it that much more relevant that we used faux flowers to make sure that they would last long enough to be enjoyed. Faux flowers are not our specialty but we enjoy working with them. They have their time and place and completely understand the value of them too. (Side note, they are NOT more affordable than real flowers. Quite the contrary. They are 2-4 times as expensive as the real ones)

We spend our slow season getting inspired and inspiring. It is crucial to our success to see how elements come together. We have to see how certain linens look with chairs and certain plates look with a mix of flowers. All these elements work together to create a cohesive event that our clients truly enjoy.

We are known for our classic look, but we can give you classic with a touch of modern and still create a beautiful event. It is our job to make sure that all elements are cohesive, but combining odd couplings is important too. I think this is when the magic happens.

For this particular table we wanted to create something pre-Fall. You know, the time between blazing hot Summer and Fall. Particularly in the South were Summer seams to drag on forever we love to create these events that help bridge the gap of the seasons.

We designed this with the help of Archive Rentals whom provided the awesome table top pieces and chairs.

just a little mood

just a little mood

The juxtaposition of the dark and moody dahlias against the light and airiness of the white and blush truly has us swooning. When we were creating this design we knew the french blue linen and blush taper candles needed a little edge and when we popped these gorgeous dahlias into the arrangement we knew we were onto something.

By combing the dark flatware against the french blue linen also provided an edginess we really enjoyed. This inspiration is for that person who loves the feel of light and airy but also loves that moodiness of a dark color palette. Everyone seems to think you have to do one or the other but here, we’ve proven you can have both.

I feel as if this Fall we will see more and more of this darkness and light contrast in weddings and events and we are here for it. We always love a client who is willing to think outside the box with still yet a timeless look.
